Lending by the World bank for infrastructure development projects in Ukraine

The author investigates the problems of implementing infrastructure projects to improve the automotive networks financed by the World Bank. It is proved that in many countries the development of infrastructure is one of the main driving forces of economic development. Financial investments in roads, ports, bridges are investments in the future because they can become a real incentive for the development of the production sector, as well as for GDP growth. The large-scale financing of infrastructure projects has helped many countries, such as China, to survive the crisis at low cost: the country did not reduce the volume of investments in them, but on the contrary, increased it, which mitigated the effects of the recession and saved almost unchanged GDP growth rates. In Ukraine, one of the most important areas of infrastructure development is the construction of roads. However, attracting private investment and commercial loans is difficult today, and therefore, almost the only source of financing the construction of highways are loans from international financial organizations. The study of the World Bank’s financing of current infrastructure development projects in Ukraine found that the largest share of its total amount is allocated to the development of the transport sector.
